Summorum Pontificum

About 10 days ago, Summorum Pontificum went into effect. From our parish‘s bulletin last weekend:

Pope Benedict has given permission for the Latin Mass. For those who are interested, we are tentatively looking at the First Friday of each month for this extraordinary celebration of Mass at 7:00 pm in Saint Mary’s Chapel. Father McFadden will be giving an ongoing preparation about the Latin Mass and its rubrics. Time line is January 2008. We are waiting for directives from Cardinal Rigali so the “dignity and majesty” of the Mass is highlighted and understood. The Pope has stated very clearly that the ordinary celebration of Mass is the Novus Ordo (New Order), the English version that has been in place since the Second Vatican Council.

One word: sweet. Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of the extraordinary form of the Mass, from the few times I have experienced it. But, anyway, sweet. It’s cool that our parish is willing to try this. And it’s cool that our priest’s rock the house.
